Air India will operate a relief flight to bring back 228 passengers stranded in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, after their San Francisco–Delhi flight made a precautionary landing due to a suspected technical issue. The airline confirmed that the special flight, operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, will depart from Delhi on Tuesday and return with the passengers on Wednesday morning.
The diverted flight, AI174, had 245 people on board, including 17 crew members. The aircraft made an unscheduled landing at Ulaanbaatar on Monday after the flight crew detected a technical problem mid-route. Air India assured that the aircraft had landed safely and that passengers were being cared for with full support from the airline, local authorities, and the Indian Embassy in Mongolia.
In a statement, Air India said, “The ferry flight AI183 is scheduled to depart Delhi this afternoon and return with the affected passengers on Wednesday morning.” The airline also added that hotel arrangements and necessary assistance were being provided to all passengers and crew members.
The Tata Group-owned carrier emphasized that the safety and well-being of passengers remain its highest priority. Technical checks are ongoing on the grounded Boeing 777 aircraft that originally operated the San Francisco–Delhi route.
